FIDE Master Nelson Castaneda Wins 2018 NBCC Championship - 10th title
Professor Nelson Castaneda earned the club championship title in 2018, his first since 2013 and tenth overall. Master Nelson ranks second overall in classical time control tournament wins or ties for first place in our club.
USCF NM Dennis Prawira Wins 2017 Oktoberfest Open and Earns Historic Achievement
Dennis' solo win in the 2017 Oktoberfest Open Chess Championship, along with his solo wins in the Arkadijs Strazdins Cup and the NBCC Championship in 2017, now makes Master Prawira only the fifth person in club history to have won or tied for first place in three or more classical time-controlled events in the same year. The only other persons to have attained this distinction were:

The 2012 Girls Under-10 World Champion, Priyanka Nutakki from India, visited the NBCC for a G/1, d/1 tournament on 6/24/2016. Priyanka won the event convincingly. Results: 1) Priyanka 30½ 2) Nelson Castaneda 27½ 3) Rick Bauer 23½ 4) Joe Bihlmeyer 23 etc.
