2nd Simsbury Open Scholastic Chess & Go Championship Saturday February 9th 2013 at the Simsbury Public Library
Saturday February 9th the Simsbury Library Chess & Go Club will organize the 2nd Simsbury Open Chess & Go Championship.
Players from out of town are also invited to join us.
This document describes the sections for Chess only. Go players can visit our web site for information about their section.
There will be two sections:
1) Championship, open to all players age 18 and lower
2) Elementary Championship open to all players in K-6th grade
Everyone will play 5 rounds. Time control is based on 30 minutes per player per round.
The first round starts at 10:30 am, we expect to finish around 4:30 pm.
Please bring a set and a clock if you have one.
The entry fee is $15 for members of the US Chess Federation (USCF).
In case you have never been a member of the USCF the fee is $20. We will register you at the USCF for a 3-month trial membership. For these $5 extra you will also receive a couple of chess magazines and get an official chess rating.
Therefore, both sections will be rated.
We will try to prevent pairing of players from the same family, school or club
in the first four rounds only.
Our tournament director will be "International Chess Master" mr Jan van de Mortel.
In case you are not familiar with USCF chess tournament rules or if you have never played with a chess clock before and are a little nervous about it, we will organize a small warm-up meeting.
This will be held Wednesday February 6th from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm in the Discovery Room in the Library. This would also
be your last chance to register for the regular entry fee.
Join us there if you'd like.
There will be trophies for the first three individuals in each section. There will be a special one for the highest ending resident in section 1 of Simsbury, West Simsbury, Tariffville and Weatogue, our new Simsbury Chess Champion.
There will be other prizes. Nobody will go home empty handed.
Mail entries to Gert Hilhorst, 18 The Courtyard, Simsbury, CT 06070-2214. Make your check payable to Gert Hilhorst. Your mail must be postmarked by February 4th.
Alternatively, you can also register at the Library just before the tournament starts between 10:00 and 10:20 am.
However, we'll charge you $10 extra and can only accept you when we have enough space left.
Snacks, drinks and lunch will be available for sale on site.
The location is Simsbury Public Library, 725 Hopmeadow Street, Simsbury, CT
Please tell us if you need a bye for one of the five rounds.
There will be a house player so everyone will have a game even if there is an odd number of participants.
