4th Simsbury Open Scholastic Chess & Go Championship
Saturday January 31st 2015 at the Simsbury Public Library

Saturday January 31st 2015 the Simsbury Library Chess & Go Club will organize the 4th Simsbury Open Chess & Go Championship. Players from out of town are also invited to join us. This document describes the sections for Chess only. Go players can visit our web site for information about their section.

There will be two sections:
1) Championship, open to all players age 18 and younger
2) Novice, open to all players in K-6th grade either unrated or with USCF rating under 800

Everyone will play 5 rounds. Time control is based on 30 minutes per player per round.
The first round starts at 10:00 am, we expect to finish around 4:30 pm.
Please bring a set and a clock if you have one.

There is no entry fee.
A current membership of the US Chess Federation (USCF) is required. In case you're not a member or in case your membership is expired please use their site www.uschess.org to fix this.
Both sections will be rated.
We will try to prevent pairing of players from the same family, school or club in the first four rounds only.
Our tournament director will be "International Chess Master" mr Jan van de Mortel.

In case you are not familiar with USCF chess tournament rules or if you have never played with a chess clock before and are a little nervous about it, we will organize a small warm-up meeting. This will be held Wednesday January 28th at 6:30pm. This would also be your last chance to register. Join us there if you'd like.

There will be trophies for the first three individuals in each section. Nobody will go home empty handed.

Mail entries to Gert Hilhorst using e-mail to address: gert@hilhorst.us
You will get a confirmation of your registration. We can only accept you when we have enough space left (our max is 90 entries).
You cannot register at the Library.
A basic pizza lunch plus drinks will be available free of charge. More food and drinks are for sale accross the street at Fitzgerald's Supermarket (nice sandwiches) and Peaberry's Coffeeshop.
The location is Simsbury Public Library, 725 Hopmeadow Street, Simsbury, CT

Please tell us if you need a bye for one of the five rounds.
There will be a house player so everyone will have a game even if there is an odd number of participants.
