• Tournaments are open to the public and equipment is provided by NBCC, unless stated otherwise.


• Tournaments generally begin at 7:00-7:15 pm on Tuesdays.


• Members enjoy reduced tournament entry rates.


• Most tournaments are USCF-rated (United States Chess Federation) and require an active USCF membership. Click here to join.


• Blitz tournaments take place on a single date, while longer-time-control tournaments are spread out over several weeks.

  •    Tuesday, May 16, 23, 30 and Jun 13, 20 2023 (June 6th is Annual Meeting)
  •    5-SS G/85;d15 (G/60;d5 option for scholastic)
  •    sections: 2, Open and U1600
  •    Entry Fee: $20 members, $35 non-members
  •    Prizes: Arkadijs Strazdins Cup, Andris Strazdins Stein, $$$ based on entries 
  •    USCF regular rated (USCF membership is required) 
  •    Online Registration, On-site Registration: 6:45-7:00 P.M.

2023 Planet Earth Chess Championship 

$900 in prizes  b/30 entries

When: Saturday, May 20, 2023 
   Where: Outdoors (weather permitting) at the Armenian Church of the Holy Resurrection, 1910 Stanley St., New Britain, CT
   Time Control: 4-SS, G/45+d/5 for Open; 5-SS G/25+d/5 for U1600 & Scholastic 
   Schedule: Sat. Rd 1 - 10:00 a.m., Subsequent Rounds ASAP, Lunch 11:30-12:30.
   Three Sections: Open, Under 1600, Scholastic (U1000) (based on the USCF May Supplement).
   Prizes:  60% of entries returned as prizes.  Prizes based on 30 advance entries.  
            Open: 1st, $180 (with Trophy and title of Planet Earth Chess Champion!); 2nd, $120; 3rd $80; Top Under 2000, $80.
            UNDER 1600: 1st $160, 2nd $120, Class prizes: U1200, $80; Top Scholastic, $80. 
            Scholastic: 1st, 2nd, 3rd, Top K-5
            Cash prizes will be split equally when tied, not trophies. 
   ENTRY FEE:  $60 Advance Entry (by 05/13), $70 after, $80 on-site. $20 less for Scholastic. Lunch included in Entry for the player. Extra
